Couple years back I've received emails concerning a number of specific brands of shampoos that contain Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS). From what I know, those brands of shampoos are not the only ones containing SLS. Almost all bodycare or beauty products contain dangerous chemicals that cause cancers. Even the products specially made for babies are not spared. Just take a look at the various baby products that you currently have at home be it baby shampoos, baby powder & baby lotion; I bet in all likelihood they contain one of these dangerous chemicals. By the way, SLS is not the only dangerous chemicals that are commonly found in our daily bodycare products.
If you are like me, inquisitive and love to equip yourself with useful info then you should head to this site for a more detailed list of toxic chemicals and the attendant side effects for each: http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/Ltoxiccosmetics.htm
The only products that do not contain these toxic chemicals are probably organic ones. But even then we have to be careful and highly selective as some unscrupulous manufacturers who are out to make a quick buck do add toxic chemicals in their so-called organic products. It is good practice to read the ingredients listed on the label carefully and if possible do some research to find out what those ingredients actually are. The credibility of the producers of the organic brand should also be taken into account before you decide to pay good money for their products.
But I know even after being armed with this knowledge it's not as easy to just chuck out our current bodycare products and switch to organic ones simply because not only are organic products far more expensive they're also not that widely available. Well, at least not here in Malaysia.
That's why I still use those non-organic brands even though I know these products are slowly poisoning me and my family. What I do is try to use less of the products especially on kids. Lesser in volume and frequency, that is. I mean, you don't have to shampoo your baby's hair everyday, do you? Skip a day or two. Or that perfumed lotion? Do we need to apply it on baby's skin after every shower? And the baby powder? So what if they don't smell as sweet.
My defense mechanism in the face of all this is simple. I just console myself by having this thought etched in my head: that is, by the time the toxicity takes effect, we'd probably be long dead due to old age or some other natural causes.
But ultimately, it's an individual choice, don't you agree? I mean at the end of the day, it's up to you to decide whether you want to poison yourself or not. Nobody else is in the position to tell you what you should do or not do to your own body. Even if someone has the right to do so, it's not like as if you'd take heed anyway.
So now, after reading this entry why don't you take a moment or two to ponder over this and decide whether to poison or de-poison yourself.
